Shen Hsin-Ling is one of our Tsinghua University alumni. Her story is already familiar to millions of students in Taiwan, as her accomplishments have been told in many school textbooks. Although she came from humble beginnings, Hsin-Ling has used the internet as a powerful tool to start her ambitious social services programs since the age of 11. She developed an online platform to connect struggling fruit farmers with wholesale buyers in order to prevent excess spoilage. In eight years the website took in NT$2 million in revenue, with all the profits going back to the farmers. At age 13 she established an open-source education website for children unable to afford tutoring. Now at age 26, she is still extending her services to even more minority groups: aboriginal people, immigrants, and disadvantaged children living in the countryside. She has also been promoting her vision through hundreds of speeches and photography exhibitions in Taiwan, the US, and beyond.
